#FirstCoatLockyer to leave its mark
The Lockyer Valley will soon feature its very own outdoor gallery of public art when the Gatton CBD Mural Project kicks off.
Branded #FirstCoatLockyer, theevent will be launched from 5pm on Thursday 29 Junein Gatton's Centenary Gardens and feature food, music and a chance to meet the artistsand curator behind the project.
And, everyone is invited to the free First Coat Lockyer Valley events!
With coffee, food and entertainment on offer, Arts and Culture Portfolio Councillor Michael Hagan encouraged everyone to back this exciting initiative.
"The Toowoomba-based curator, Kontraband Studios, has extensive experience transforming public spaces and revitalising town centres and we are thrilled to welcome them as they extend the First Coat series to the Lockyer Valley.
"Public art plays an important role in the landscape of any community and we look forward to seeing the end results," Cr Hagan said.
Following the opening, mural painting will commence at three sites within the Gatton CBD from Friday 30 June and continue for three days.
On Saturday 1 July, there will be an Artist's Talk & Tour from 3pm - 4pm.It'll be an opportunity to see first-hand the works in progress and hear what inspired the artists' designs and painting methods.
Artworks will feature on part of the old squash courts, the new Gatton Real Estate building and the North Street public toilet block.
Supporting three professional artists, there is an opportunity for local emerging public artists to participate and be mentored for future projects.
