Laidley lighting project

The Laidley Recreation Reserve lighting replacement project has progressed on time, and is now nearing completion.

Regarded as one of the premier sporting facilities within the Lockyer Valley, the upgrade will see new lighting at two more fields through the installation of ten new poles across the main soccer field, as well as the Mick Brennan Field. The project will also see the upgrade of 16 existing poles, all with the most up-to-date light-emitting diode (LED) light fittings and controls.

All excavation, trenching and electrical cabling works are finalised and Council's Mayor Tanya Milligan said installation of the new light poles was also completed last week.

Crews have now moved onto fitting the LED lights, which started with the netball courts this week, with other fields to follow over the coming weeks.

The retrofitting of LED lights to new and existing poles will be completed before any light positioning or lighting control systems are introduced, she said.

With the facility used by more than 1400 residents each week, Mayor Milligan said this was wonderful news for the sporting facility.

The Laidley Recreation Reserve is regularly frequented by everything from Little Athletics to soccer, netball, Junior and Senior Rugby League, touch, softball and physical fitness groups, as well as walkers, schools and visiting teams.

It's operating at near capacity in most sports so to keep up with the increasing population and ensure the sustainability of the region is vital moving forward, she said.

The Queensland Government provided $492,000 to Lockyer Valley Regional Council for the Laidley Recreation Reserve Lighting Replacement project, to increase Queenslanders participation in sport and recreation activities. Council will contribute $249,000 to the project - making the total overhaul worth around $740,000.
