New Lockyer Valley Regional Council sworn in
The new Lockyer Valley Regional Council has been officially sworn in, led by Mayor Tanya Milligan for her second term.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council CEO, Ian Church congratulated Mayor Milligan on her re-election, after running unopposed in last month's local government elections.
"Mayor Milligan is a passionate and dedicated leader who is committed to the betterment of the Lockyer Valley and I know she will continue to lead with strength and determination during these uncertain times.
"I wish her only the best for the upcoming term," Mr Church said.
Mayor Milligan said she was honoured to be chosen to again lead the Lockyer Valley
"This is such a wonderful privilege and I can assure the community it is one I won't be taking for granted.
"The coronavirus pandemic certainly poses an unprecedented challenge for Council and our community, but I know that together, we will get through this," she said.
Mayor Milligan and returning Councillor Janice Holstein were sworn in earlier this week, to fulfil their requirements with the Local Disaster Management Group and the region's subsequent response to COVID-19.
The remaining Councillors, including Cr Jason Cook, Cr Michael Hagan, Cr Chris Wilson, Cr Rick Vela and newcomer, Cr Brett Qualischefski were sworn in today.
Mr Church said the new Council embodied strong community representation built on individuals with a close connection to the region.
"I have every confidence this Council will continue to lead our community through this pandemic and to the other side, stronger than ever," he said.
The new Council will meet again on Friday 17 April for their first official meeting, which will see the deputy mayor elected.
