Renovation works set for Das Neumann Haus, Laidley
Laidley's Das Neumann Haus (DNH) is set to receive a new lease on life, with renovation works set to begin this week.
Lockyer Valley Tourism Portfolio Councillor Brett Qualischefski said the works would include the removal of the existing front stairs, which are set to be replaced with a new set of stairs, top landing and handrails.
The new set of stairs will match the existing faade and provide safer access to the front entry.
Works will also be carried out to the open balcony on the western side, which will involve the removal of the existing metal sheeting and replacing with new deck sheeting, structural bracing for new balustrade installation and new gutters to improve stormwater flow.
Painting of the building exterior will also be carried out and will include the complete exterior, weatherboards, balconies, handrails, balustrading and timber decks.
Bird netting and bird spiking will be included in the works to minimise the impact of pigeons nesting on the roof and balcony areas, Cr Qualischefski said.
A footpath closure will be implemented from tomorrow, 16 March to 15 April 2021 for the duration of the stair works and exterior painting to the front faade. Pedestrian signage will be implemented directing people through the park area and Council asks for patience and understanding while works are completed.
Works on the front stairs are expected to be completed by mid-April and works on the balcony by the end of May, weather permitting.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council has contributed financially to the project, in conjunction with funding from the Neumann Benevolent Foundation and DNH Incorporated.
Das Neumann Haus will continue to be open to the public Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10am - 3pm. Das Neumann Haus is located on the corner of William and Patrick Streets, Laidley.
