Repair bill to top $1M

The repair bill courtesy of ex-Tropical Cyclone Debbie is expected to hit $1M for the Lockyer Valley Regional Council area.

Four months on from the event and Council will this week submit the Restoration of Essential Public Assets (REPA) package to the Queensland Reconstruction Authority (QRA).

Lockyer Valley Regional Council's Infrastructure Portfolio Councillor, Janice Holstein said once the restoration funding was secured, Council would make it a priority to program the works as soon as possible.

The scheduling of works can occur as soon as we have the green light from the QRA approving the proposed scope of the restoration works. Subject to weather conditions through next summer, we expect to finish the REPA package by the end of 2017-18 alongside our normal Council business.

A number of roads, bridges and floodways were impacted to various degrees by the high level of rainfall and we thank the community for their patience surrounding this process.

It was vital due process was followed to ensure we secured funding as we did not want ratepayers to bear any of the cost, Cr Holstein said.

Restoration works are jointly funded by the Commonwealth and Queensland Government under the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements.
