Shading Forest Hill
The Forest Hill Recreation Grounds has received a timely facelift with permanent shade structures now in place at the grounds.
Providing necessary protection for users at the field, Lockyer Valley Regional Council Mayor, Steve Jones, said this was a perfect example of the type of project which could be achieved when community groups worked together.
This was a joint project between Council, the Forest Hill Community Development, Forest Hill Christmas Festivities and the Forest Hill School of Arts and is a great result for the community, Mayor Jones said.
Council is committed to assisting community groups in our region, especially those who are proactive in their approach.
In this case, the groups have come together to work out what is most-needed in the community. They have come up with a plan, set out the priorities and worked with Council to achieve this goal.
The new shade structure will provide sun protection for members of the community using the grounds and is part of a long-term strategy for the fields.
We have been talking to groups about capacity building for a while now and this includes things like compiling master plans and identifying long-terms goals, Mayor Jones said.
The groups in Forest Hill have done this and with a well-planned strategy in place this is the just the first of a number of initiatives which will be rolled out over the next few months.
It is particularly pleasing to see community groups investing their own funds into improving their local communities.
