Visit for local Food Ambassador
Lockyer Valley's Food Ambassador Alastair McLeod has just completed a two-day visit to the region.
The celebrity chef and food extraordinaire paid visit to a variety of local producers, including Emmos Fine Foods, Blackboy Ridge, Bare Essentials, Lockyer Valley Cultural Centre, 9dorf and Laidley's Branell Homestead, just to name a few.
He witnessed local producers harvesting their crops, preparing for markets and eagerly took the chance to chat to them, first-hand.
Council's Mayor Steve Jones said the tour was designed to further Alastair's knowledge of the region and its produce, which would in turn allow Alastair to be a strong advocate for promoting the Lockyer Valley and its produce through social media, print media and at food events.
Alastair was an easy choice for the role as Food Ambassador, Cr Jones said.
He is a passionate supporter of all things local and has a drive for food that is undeniable.
He is a firm believer in fresh, local produce and offers the perfect platform to promote the Lockyer Valley to Queensland and beyond, he said.
Alastair McLeod was first appointed Lockyer Valley Food Ambassador in March 2014. Alastair continues to make appearances for the region at the Brisbane Good Food and Wine Show, Regional Flavours, Brisbane Ekka and at the Martin Place media launch in Sydney. At each of these events, Alastair conducted cooking demonstrations using Lockyer Valley produce while promoting the region and our producers to the audiences.
Our partnership with Alastair generates an enormous amount of opportunity to promote the region and all it has to offer, Cr Jones said.
Alastair McLeod is the Executive Chef of Brisbane's highly acclaimed Tank Restaurant and Bar and the former icon Bretts Wharf restaurant. He is also a presenter for Channel Seven's lifestyle program Queensland Weekender and hosts his own homegrown food show, Off the Eaten Track.
