Laidley Recreation Reserve Grandstand named in honour of Laidley legend

The Laidley Recreation Reserve Grandstand has been named in honour of the founder of the Laidley Recreation Committee, Dan Flanagan.

Lockyer Valley Regional Council approved the naming of the building as the ‘Dan Flanagan Grandstand’ at its August Council Meeting yesterday, following an Expression of Interest (EOI) process to gather community input earlier this year.

Lockyer Valley Regional Council Mayor, Tanya Milligan said Mr Flanagan was the standout choice, and the tribute ensured his life-long contributions and legacy to the local sporting community would live on.

“This recognises the significant connection Dan has to the rec grounds through his evolving roles as a former President and founder of the Laidley Recreation Committee, a coach, former player and local touch football founder,” she said.

“We congratulate Dan on this well-deserved and significant nod and applaud his hard work and dedication over many years – it’s truly inspiring.”

The ‘Dan Flanagan Grandstand’ received the greatest number of eligible nominations as a result of the EOI process, which garnered 43 submissions.

Nominees were required to meet certain criteria, including having a significant connection to the land that is now the Laidley Recreation Reserve, or having made a significant contribution to the community.

They were also required to have a good reputation across the community, and to have actively demonstrated qualities of fairness, tolerance, honesty, integrity and community-mindedness.

Signage will be installed in the near future.
