Now is the time to transition to new smoke alarms

The deadline might be a few years off yet, however why not make the transition to interconnected smoke alarms now?

Queensland is moving to new smoke alarm legislation requiring owner-occupiers to install interconnected smoke alarms in every bedroom, hallway and on every storey by 2027.

However, Lockyer Valley Regional Council Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan is encouraging residents to bite the bullet and do so now.

“Between work, families and other life commitments, we’re all so busy and time really does escape us.

“We all want nothing more than to protect our families, which is why it’s time to transition to interconnected smoke alarms now.

“Our Council supports this initiative by Queensland Fire and Emergency Services, who are so often dealing with the tragic circumstances where families haven’t heard smoke alarms and escaped in time.

“Interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms detect smoke faster and when one alarm goes off, they all go off, which means more time to escape in the event of a house fire, so why wait?” Mayor Milligan said.
