Be part of the change this National Road Safety Week
Road safety starts with YOU – is the message this year’s National Road Safety Week wants drivers to remember.
This week is National Road Safety Week and Lockyer Valley Regional Council is urging residents to be part of the change and remember “road safety starts with me” when travelling on the region’s roads.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council Infrastructure Portfolio Councillor, Janice Holstein said there were several important ideas motorists should remember before they take to our roads.
“We’re encouraging our residents to make a positive difference on our roads – not just this month, but always.
“These are all simple steps that can be easily implemented and make a huge difference in ensuring our safety.
“Indicators can often be overlooked but play such an important role in keeping us safe on the roads – simply by letting other drivers know your intentions before you make changes and allowing them to act accordingly.
“A two-second gap in ideal conditions and four-seconds at night or in the rain is the recommended safe distance to keep from the car in front of you and is another important part of road safety.
“Sharing the road with other drivers and bike riders is so important – simple courtesy really does go a long way,” Cr Holstein said.
Cr Holstein encouraged the motorists to:
- Always use your indicator;
- Be courteous to others;
- Leave a gap;
- Wave to say thanks; and
- Share the road.
National Road Safety Week for 2023 will be held throughout 21 – 25 August. For more information about how you can contribute to road safety see https://streetsmarts.initiatives.qld.gov.au/qrsw-2023/
