Council welcomes 25 new citizens
Lockyer Valley Regional Council’s second last Citizenship Ceremony for 2023 saw 25 conferees take the pledge at the Gatton Shire Hall today.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan said the event held extra meaning, with a total of four families taking part from 11 different countries.
“We were delighted to host such a large event and officially welcome our newest Australian citizens.
“These ceremonies are special events to celebrate the granting of citizenship to citizens from diverse background.
"Whether born here or deciding to call Australia their home, citizenship is a common bond uniting all Australians.
“Welcoming new Australian citizens truly is one of my favourite parts of my role as Mayor.
“Their enthusiasm and appreciation for Australian citizenship, the country itself, and the Lockyer Valley is a great reminder of just how lucky we have it every day.
"Congratulations to those becoming Australian citizens - it's been a privilege to welcome our newest citizens to the Australian community,” Mayor Milligan said.
Council administers Citizenship Ceremonies on behalf of the Department of Home Affairs.
The Lockyer Valley’s newest citizens enjoyed morning tea together at the conclusion of the formalities. The final Ceremony for 2023 will be held in November.
