Council acknowledges long serving employees
Twenty-seven Lockyer Valley Regional Council employees with 500 years' combined service were today recognised by Council.
This year marked a milestone for a host of employees, who were acknowledged for reaching 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 and an incredible 40 years’ service.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council CEO, Ian Church commended the commitment and dedication of Council's employees, saying their achievements had a positive impact on morale and resulted in increased stability across the organisation.
“Long serving employees are specialists in their field and carry a wealth of knowledge and skills.
“Not only are they more efficient in their roles, but also require less supervision and training and this is why retaining experience is so important.
“This is a remarkable achievement and something both our employees, and Council as an employer, can be proud of,” he said.
Principal Parks, Recreation and Cemeteries Brendan Sippel, who has just ticked over 20 years’ service with Council, praised the wide range of career opportunities available in local government.
“I completed my traineeship with Council in 2003 and was fortunate enough to be successful in securing a job as a labourer.
“Undoubtedly the best part of working for Council is seeing the result of our hard work translate for our community.
“Our parks and cemeteries are meaningful places for many residents, which means ensuring they are maintained to the best of our ability is equally as important,” he said.
Job satisfaction was also meaningful, Brendan said.
He listed working on the Fairways Park project, which is a “wonderful community asset” and the beautification works for the Laidley Spring Festival as career highlights and meaningful aspects of his position.
