Mark the date for the Winter Sports Showcase
Don’t let the temperatures fool you - the winter sports season is right around the corner.
It’s often tricky to know just what sports might be right for you, and that is why Lockyer Valley Regional Council will once again host a multisport come and try event – this time, the Winter Sports Showcase.
Council is extending the invitation for residents to come along on Saturday 1 February, where they can try a range of sports for free.
Council’s Sport and Recreation Portfolio Councillor Anthony Wilson said this was the perfect chance to find out what winter sports might be the right fit for you.
“This a great opportunity for the community to meet our local sporting clubs, learn what sporting opportunities are available in our region and what might suit them best.
“Getting kids back to school is an expensive time, and it’s right off the back of Christmas and the school holidays, so we are pleased to offer this free event and take away any financial burden from the experience.
“We have everything from rugby league, AFL, soccer, tennis, netball, touch football, learn to swim and more, so we hope to see you there,” Cr Wilson said.
Not only will local sporting clubs and providers be on hand, but so will State sporting organisations, including NRL and AFL Queensland. All ages and abilities are welcome.
The Winter Sports Showcase forms part of the “Sport for All in the Lockyer Valley” initiative. This project has received grant funding from the Australian Government managed by the Australian Sports Commission.
