Floodway replacement works are now complete on Forest Hill - Blenheim Road at Glen Cairn.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council’s Infrastructure Portfolio Councillor, Michael Hagan said the new structure would be more resilient to the effects of floods.
“These works have significantly improved Forest Hill - Blenheim Road, which is a rural arterial road that provides access to Laidley Heights, Blenheim, Forest Hill and Laidley.
“Many of our residents use this road as an alternative route between localities, so it was important we ensure its longevity.
“It’s helpful for the community to understand that floodways help carry water during floods and are designed to be submerged at times, minimising further damage to the road,” Cr Hagan said.
The project, funded from Council’s 2024-2025 Capital Budget, included installing a new under road drainage system and replacing the old concrete floodway, which was showing signs of significant cracking.
“Crews completed a range of works, including demolishing and removing existing structures, minor earthworks, constructing a culvert base slab, installing new aprons, new reinforced concrete box culverts, rock protection and the replacement of the affected guideposts and road furniture.
“Pavement reconstruction and resurfacing of road approaches on both ends of the concrete floodway were also completed.
“The improvements will greatly increase flood resilience in the area and reduce the inconvenience of future flooding disruptions, and we extend our thanks to the community for their patience throughout the works period,” Cr Hagan said.
