How frequently are Rates issued?

The Lockyer Valley Regional Council issues rates on a 6 monthly basis for the period 1 July - 31 December and 1 January to 30 June. The rate levy may be issued by Council at any time within that 6 month period.

How is the General Rate calculated?

General rates are calculated on the latest Unimproved/Site Value of Land, as determined by the Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy (DNRME) using a rate in the dollar or as determined by Council at its Budget meeting.

Can I change my address over the phone?

No. To ensure the accuracy and security of Council's property records, changes of address will not be accepted over the telephone. Having a mail re-direction or verbal communication with Council will not be sufficient notice to Council.

Collection Agents and other Council Departments cannot accept change of address advices for Rates.

I only paid my rates one day after the due date, why can't I receive the discount?

Council's discount policy and the due date for eligibility for the discount are clearly stated on each rate notice issued. A discount is offered as an incentive for the prompt payment of rates. As such, to ensure equity to all property owners in the region, Council must ensure that it abides by the due date set for the close of discount for each rate levy issued.

How can I pay my rates?

All payment options are listed on the back of each rate notice issued. These include Aus Post - Billpay, Credit Card (Mastercard & Visa only) by phone, B-pay, Direct Debit, Mail (cheque or money orders) EFTPOS, Online Services or by visiting one of Council's Customer Service Centres.

How is interest calculated?

Interest is charged at the rate of 8.53% per annum calculated and compounded on daily balances on all rates and charges which remain unpaid after the expiration of the discount period and on any arrears of rates and charges.

What is the change of ownership fee?

The change of ownership fee is to process the change of ownership notifications received from Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy (DNRME) on a daily basis.
