A place to call home
More housing for seniors will soon become available for Lockyer Valley residents with Council giving its in principle support for the Concept development of a Lockyer Valley Residential Village Resort.
As part of the concept plan, more than 100 rooms will be available at the facility which will be built in Gatton.
Realising the need for housing for residents over the age of 50, Mayor Steve Jones, said this was a positive outcome for the community.
This is an extremely exciting project for the community, Mayor Jones said.
We are an expanding region and accommodation is an ongoing issue for residents.
To address these concerns we announced the development of a new motel in Gatton to cater for visitors to the region last year and this new development will help ensure we give our elderly residents a place to stay.
The Lockyer Valley Residential Village Resort will be located in a strategic location, close to the centre of Gatton.
At present there is a demand for this form of housing and it's important we build facilities such as this to ensure our residents can stay within the region and not be forced to move away, Mayor Jones said.
This will also help us attract new residents who are looking to downsize into a rural community while providing an opportunity for retired farmers to stay in a town they have done business all their lives.
The site is ideally located for a retirement complex in that it is flood free, located within easy walking distance of the centre of Gatton and is close to a number of other facilities.
The facility will provide amenities such as caravan/RV parking and storage, kitchens, barbecues, a library, games room, a computer hub and community garden.
The Lockyer Valley Residential Village Resort was presented to Council by Peart Land at its Ordinary Meeting on 27 January with Council giving its principle support for the Concept.
Peart Land, which has gone into partnership with the Australian Business Financial Exchange on this project, has a number of quality developments in the local area, such as The Horizon, which recently launched at Withcott.
