Bar raised at Council's Hip Hop Workshops
The bar has been raised by Lockyer Valley's newest hip-hop dancers, following a successful dance performance evening at the Gatton Shire Hall.
More than 40 participants, aged from five to almost 60 years, took part in the age-tailored hip-hop sessions which included artistic and physical challenges as well as fun and fitness.
Participants then performed before family and friends on Wednesday 30 September.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council welcomed dance instructor Bekky Carter, from award-winning dance company Elements Collective, to teach the three-day hip-hop dance workshop.
Ms Carter is a regular member of the Brisbane Heat Hype Crew, has danced at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and was a finalist in So You Think You Can Dance.
Lockyer Valley Mayor, Councillor Tanya Milligan said family members travelled from across the Lockyer Valley, Toowoomba and the Darling Downs to see the performance.
"The Hip Hop Dance Workshops built on the success of the Queensland Ballet Dance Camp which was held in January 2020.
"We were really fortunate to gain funding through the RADF to engage facilitators like Elements Collective to provide an opportunity to the community to try out different styles of dance than what they would usually be exposed to in the Lockyer Valley.
"It's a great opportunity to have dance workshops like this through the school holidays and have a final performance evening to showcase their learnings from the three-days of training," Mayor Milligan said.
The Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) supported program was aimed at introducing people to new dance styles with the hope of instilling a passion in them to join a local dance school or dance group.
Council will now develop a final series of dance workshops to close out this RADF-funded program.
The Regional Arts Development Fund is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Lockyer Valley Regional Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.
