Build a food trail in the Lockyer Valley
Build a food trail in the Lockyer Valley these holidays
FOOD lovers looking for a culinary discovery are urged to make the Lockyer Valley their destination this holiday period.
Spending your New Year break in the region allows the opportunity to build a food trail and go on a journey of discovery.
With the Lockyer Valley home to numerous roadside stalls, Council's Mayor Steve Jones said nothing compared to farm-fresh produce.
Building a food trail is a boutique experience. It allows you to map a journey that will discover exactly what you want it to - local produce at its best, Cr Jones said.
And that is often the best way to get to know a region - through its food.
As one of the top ten most fertile farming areas in the world, the region has wonderful dark alluvial soil, good quality water and an ideal climate for agricultural innovation.
This allows the production of an extensive range of foods, all of which will make your mouth water like it never has before.
The region hosts a variety of fresh food markets each month, with the Mulgowie Farmers Market, held the first Saturday of each month, a must-do for locally made jams, cheeses and more.
The Visitor Information Centre, located in the Lockyer Valley Cultural Centre, also offers a range of boutique chocolate, local jams and handmade skin care products.
Located less than an hour from Brisbane and even less from Ipswich and Toowoomba, the Lockyer Valley is undoubtedly a drive destination and the perfect place for a day trip, weekend or family holiday.
Whether you buy delicious small goods and cheeses from Schulte's, taste award winning wine and cheese platters at Preston Peak Wines while you soak in the stunning views of the Lockyer Valley or dine at the region's 50's-themed diners, the Lockyer Valley offers an endless list of things to do for food lovers, Cr Jones said.
