Building a safer region
A focus on a safer region for the community has seen the successful upgrade of a Plainland intersection.
Having commenced the project in early May, Lockyer Valley Mayor, Steve Jones, said this was one of a number of sections Council was focused on.
Improving the roads throughout the entire region remains a priority for this Council, Mayor Jones said.
The roadworks at the intersection of Gehrke Road, Mountain View Drive and Otto Road were necessary to ensure the safety of the region's roads.
By upgrading this intersection and adding a right turn lane into Mountain View Road, the improved layout and increased sight distances will greatly enhance the overall safety of the intersection.
These road safety improvements have been timed to coincide with the recent upturn in development in the Plainland area.
Over the past few years we have spent a lot of time and effort on the 2011 and 2013 flood restoration projects but with both those works now complete, we can really focus on other areas throughout the region.
Roadworks on this intersection are expected to be completed later this month.
This project is a joint funding initiative between the Lockyer Valley Regional Council, Queensland State Government as part of the Transport Infrastructure Development Scheme (TIDS) and the Australian Government as part of the Blackspot Programme, both of which specifically target road safety improvements and provide funding to local governments for transport related initiatives.
