Calling all community groups and schools
As preparations get underway for the Laidley Spring Festival, a revamp of the famous Orchid and Flower
Show paves the way for increased community involvement.
Arts and Culture portfolio Councillor, Michael Hagan, said there were a number of modifications planned for this year's festival, including an earlier main parade and changes to the Orchid and Flower Show which would see it bigger and better than ever before.
I am really excited about this year's program for the Laidley Spring Festival; it will see increased community involvement in the flower show which forms part of the centrepiece of the festival.
This year there will be a massive orchid display in the downstairs auditorium of the Laidley Cultural Centre with an opportunity for community groups and schools to promote themselves and everything that is great about the Lockyer Valley.
Schools, community groups and even local businesses are invited to take up an alcove at the venue and
promote the Lockyer Valley by blending what they do with a floral display.
The theme for this year's festival is Living Lockyer, which certainly opens the door for local groups and
businesses to highlight the important role they play in the Lockyer Valley.
At this stage Council is asking that interested community groups, schools and business contact Council to indicate their interest in taking part in the display which will be made available free of charge, Cr Hagan said.
