Celebrate the trucking industry
Celebrate the trucking industry in Gatton this long-weekend
THOUSANDS are expected to converge on the Lockyer Valley this October long-weekend when Gatton plays host to a one-of-a-kind celebration.
The Lights on the Hill Memorial Convoy Weekend is a premier event for not only Queensland, but Australia.
Council's Mayor Tanya Milligan said the two-day event was both a celebration and commemoration.
It really is a weekend of mixed emotions.
We want to honour those truck drivers who have sacrificed their lives for us, but also thank and celebrate those who are still driving the roads of Australia.
The transport industry obviously plays a pivotal role to the success of the agricultural industry in the Lockyer Valley, so it is a fitting celebration, Mayor Milligan said.
The memorial convoy will depart Withcott and Bundamba at 10am on Saturday 1 October, on route to the Lockyer Race Club in Gatton for one massive party.
A spectacular country music concert will headline Saturday's program, with Aussie artists including the Wolfe Brothers and The Viper Creek Band. With kids' rides, full bar facilities, food stalls, market stalls and more, it is sure to be a weekend the family won't forget. Onsite camping is available, so be sure to register online now.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Lake Apex Park, Gatton on 10am on Sunday 2 October.
It's always an emotional service as the families of those who have lost their loved ones come together.
However I would encourage members of the community to come along to show their support and thanks at the service, but to also join in this wonderful weekend event, Mayor Milligan said.
The NRL Grand Final will be televised on the big screen at the Race Club following the service, with a special performance by Travis Collins following the final.
