Consultant engaged for Flood Mitigation Project
Improved flood resilience for the township of Laidley is now one step closer after Council recently engaged a consultant to undertake the design of the Laidley Flood Mitigation Project.
The project will test the benefits of increasing the capacity of the existing Laidley North drain from the Patrick Street bridge at Whites Road to just north of the Stanford Place cul-de-sac.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council Mayor Tanya Milligan said a project kick-off meeting with Council's consultants was held recently.
The consultant will be investigating and reporting on the benefits of the Laidley North drain works in the New Year.
Construction works are set to begin early in 2017 and completed by next June, Mayor Milligan said.
Infrastructure Portfolio Councillor Janice Holstein said the Laidley North drain was one of several flood mitigation devices aimed at improving the flood resilience of the Laidley community.
This is an exciting project for not only Laidley, but the Lockyer Valley as a region.
The consultants have been asked to develop a design that makes a positive change to flood impacts on property and business owners in or near the Laidley CBD, Cr Holstein said.
The Project is jointly funded by Lockyer Valley Regional Council and the State Government, through the Department of Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning.
