Council committed to supporting hospitality industry
Lockyer Valley Regional Council is committed to supporting the region's hospitality industry through the continued impacts of the global pandemic.
Council's Regional Skills Investment Strategy (RSIS) project, funded by the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training, is designed to identify skill gaps within the industry and provide recommendations to bridge the gap between existing training opportunities and the workforce skills needed.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan said the hospitality industry had shouldered a considerable weight since the pandemic began.
We recognise the lockdowns have resulted in challenges for managers and workers in the hospitality sector.
The industry is currently facing huge changes in operations, procedures and expectations, and hospitality business operators are overwhelmed.
We want to do our bit to make recovery for the hospitality industry an easier process, Mayor Milligan said.
Through the RSIS project, Council has engaged a hospitality consultant to work with the Lockyer Valley hospitality industry and assist with business recovery.
Under Stage 1 of the project, contractor Groei, in partnership with Council's RSIS Coordinator completed one-on-one business outreach meetings with three hospitality businesses in the Lockyer Valley.
These meetings were designed to perform a skills and knowledge gap and operational gap analysis and identify business growth opportunities.
Based on the initial business outreach meeting, businesses have also undertaken one-on-one business development and coaching meetings, she said.
Business improvements and recommendations were presented to each business, ranging from simple menu changes to focus on reducing waste, implementing policies and procedures to assist with staffing and promotional opportunities to reach a wider client base in off-peak times.
We've received positive feedback and businesses have already implemented improvements, Mayor Milligan said.
Stage 2 of the project has commenced and will see a further six businesses undertake the consultation process.
