Council partnership raises vital funding for Queensland farmers
Lockyer Valley Regional Council, in partnership with Rotary International, has helped make a difference to the lives of struggling farmers throughout Queensland.
Lockyer Valley Mayor Steve Jones said as one of the world's most fertile areas, the Lockyer Valley knows only too well the heartache associated with drought.
Working on the land is never easy and especially when there is very little rainfall, he said.
To help drought stricken Queensland farmers and graziers, Council teamed up with Rotary International and Massey-Ferguson and launched Fergies for the Bush as part of our Sydney Royal Easter Show initiative, Cr Jones said.
Through this initiative, Rotary have been able to raise more than $100,000 for farmers with $12,000 coming from sales at our stand at the Sydney Easter Show,
I am very pleased we have been able to go some way to make a difference in the lives of our struggling farmers,
It's important we continue to support primary producers if we as a nation want to continue eating the highest quality food grown locally because the alternative, is cheap foreign produced food that isn't grown or produced to the stringent quality control measures in place here in Australia, Mayor Jones said.
