Lockyer Valley Regional Council pays respect to fallen bus driver
Flags at Council's Gatton office will fly at half-mast today, in memory of bus driver Manmeet Sharma.
The Brisbane City Council employee was set alight in a hideous attack last week while driving a Council bus.
Ipswich City Council Mayor Paul Pisasale invited neighbouring Councils to lower their flags as a sign of respect for the 29-year-old and Lockyer Valley Regional Council will also follow suit.
Council's Mayor Tanya Milligan said the deplorable act had shaken the community.
This was an unthinkable attack and it really has rocked the country.
This is simply not ok.
Frontline Council employees are in contact with members of their community in their respective positions all day, every day, and to think this could happen to a young man, simply serving his community, is unimaginable.
Flying our flags at half-mast today is a sign of respect for the family of Manmeet and to acknowledge the dedicated work of our front-line staff, in Councils across Queensland and Australia.
I commend Mayor Pisasale on this initiative and am honoured to show our support, Mayor Milligan said.
