Council ready for bumper show season
Lockyer Valley residents will have an opportunity to interact with their elected Councillors and Council staff at the region's upcoming shows.
The Laidley Show, to be held from 1 - 3 July, will be the first chance for ratepayers to learn more about Council's services, followed by the Gatton Show from 14 -16 July.
Council's Mayor Tanya Milligan said this was just one step on the road to including the community in Council's planning processes.
Council's team will be there to listen to residents' concerns and ideas and to provide responses to some of the frequently asked questions from the community, Mayor Milligan said.
Council will also launch a new initiative, the Budget Allocator, which seeks residents' views and values on preferred levels of service including the frequency of mowing parks or grading unsealed roads.
Residents will have the chance to use an interactive program and tweak the proposed 2017-18 budget with their preferences.
Council will then use the collated responses, along with other information to help shape future levels of service, Mayor Milligan said.
It is expected Councillors will be present at Council's Laidley Show stand between 8am and 5pm on Saturday and Sunday and at the Gatton Show from 10am - 6pm on the Friday and 10am to 9pm on Saturday.
Mayor Milligan took the opportunity to wish both the Laidley and Gatton Show Societies all the best for their upcoming events.
This is a milestone year for the Gatton Show Society as it celebrates 100 years and we are honoured to have His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC, Governor of Queensland at the official morning tea and opening ceremony on Saturday 16 July.
No regional show would be possible without the dedication and commitment from its Show Society. The Laidley and Gatton Show Societies are second to none and are to be congratulated on their efforts.
Regional shows are the backbone of the community and provide locals and visitors with an opportunity to come together in a way that only a country show can provide, she said.
The 126th Laidley Show will be held from 1 - 3 July, while the 100th Gatton Show will take place from 14 - 16 July.
