Council recognised for outstanding Risk Management
Lockyer Valley Regional Council has won the quarterly 2019-20 Local Government Mutual Services Risk Excellence Award for the Darling Downs and South West Queensland region.
The Award is in recognition of Council's Enterprise Risk Management Improvement Journey.
Lockyer Valley Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan accepted the Award at the Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ) Annual Conference with Council's Chief Executive Officer, Ian Church.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council Chief Executive Officer, Ian Church said the implementation of the Risk Management Framework allowed Council officers to have a shared understanding of risk for the organisation.
"The framework is a tool, along with Council's Risk Register, to help determine the amount of risk that will be placed on the organisation from each decision.
"Risk is inevitable; however, we can utilise these tools to see where we can accept risk and where we can lower the risk toward the business," Mr Church said.
Mayor Milligan congratulated Council officers involved in achieving this outstanding outcome for the organisation and Lockyer Valley community.
"This has been a three-year engaged process, utilising key stakeholders from right across the organisation.
"We will now work towards embedding this framework into all of Council's decision-making processes," Mayor Milligan said.
Award recipients were determined by their level of alignment with Australian Standard; their efficiency, effectiveness and impact of the activity on reducing risk; and progress made in improving risk management maturity.
Any project, initiative, activity or program undertaken by a Member of a Local Government Mutual Services (LGMS) scheme within the preceding 12 months was considered eligible for recognition.
