Council secures upgrades for Gatton Showgrounds
Several upgrades are currently underway at the Gatton Showgrounds, with Lockyer Valley Regional Council playing a leading role in securing the longevity of the much-loved community facility.
Lockyer Valley Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan said Council remained committed to facilitating positive improvements at the Gatton Showgrounds.
We're about to start work on a retaining wall upgrade at the Equestrian Centre and stables after feedback from users of the Lockyer Valley Equestrian Centre.
Works are due to be finished by the end of next month, with the project undertaken by Council staff and using supplies from local businesses.
We're also re-using the existing blocks, which will go a long way in saving costs for the overall upgrade, Mayor Milligan said.
This project is funded under the COVID Works For Queensland program.
Recently, Council installed new manure bays around the Equestrian Centre and, in conjunction with the Gatton Show Society, replaced the cattle tie up fencing with concrete blocks.
Mayor Milligan said other improvements earmarked included way finding signage to assist in identifying key areas in the precinct, as well as installing disability pathways through the main Sports Centre building and repairs to the gymnastics old pavilion.
We're also completing repairs on the warm-up arena, which was identified in the Gatton Showground Masterplan.
In total, we're talking about $176,000 of improvements that will soon be completed, which is a considerable investment.
Local showgrounds are an important facility for many regional communities and we will continue to facilitate upgrades to secure the long-term future of these important facilities.
I would also like to acknowledge the work of Deputy Mayor, Cr Jason Cook for his involvement in the Showgrounds Masterplan and his commitment to working with the facility's stakeholders to achieve the best possible outcome, she said.
The Gatton Showgrounds Masterplan Improvement Works are an initiative of the Queensland Government.
