Council's new-look Tourism Guide, website a great tool for out-of-towners

It's less than one hour west from Brisbane - but do you know what's really on offer to see and do in the Lockyer Valley?

The finishing touches on Council's new Tourism Guide are now complete, and the new-look publication holds the answers to the region.

Council's Mayor Steve Jones said the guide showcased the abundance of real country experiences that were at everyone's back doorstep.

If it's great cafes featuring the freshest of local produce, the Lockyer Valley is your place, Cr Jones said.

If it's stunning scenery, family attractions, museums or scenic parks, we have it here.

From horse-riding through a historical national trail, or spotting rare bird species at Glen Rock Regional Park, there is something for the whole family to enjoy.

There are also boutique fashion and gift stores including exquisite tea rooms selling tea sets, handmade chocolates and antique clothing.

You can also browse a range of gifts, jewellery and accessories in a number of cafes in Forest Hill while you wait for your coffee.

Council's tourism website, www.luvyalockyer.com.au, has also had a makeover.

Cr Jones encouraged visitors to utilise the website when planning their weekend activities.

Foodies can rest assured; they'll be in their element. There's the option to create a food trail, or personalised food adventure, Cr Jones said.

Whether you're looking to purchase locally made jams, honey, chocolates or even skincare, there is somewhere to stop in and purchase.

You can even visit an award winning winery with stunning views over the region, or have your own farm gate experience by stopping in at roadside stalls and purchasing farm fresh produce direct from the grower.

The trip planner function means you can add your favourite attractions and businesses and then simply print a list of your must-see spots to visit.

The Lockyer Valley is full of hidden treasures, Cr Jones said.

If it's a weekend stay, or longer, the region has a number of accommodation options, from family campgrounds to award winning B & B's and farm houses.
