Council takes the plunge with stage two works
With the Lockyer Valley Sports and Aquatic Centre exceeding all expectations within its first twelve months of operation, plans are now underway for stage two works, including a wet area for children.
Lockyer Valley Mayor Steve Jones said the success of the facility has surpassed all expectations.
We've been blown away by just how successful it has been so far, Mayor Jones said.
The feedback from the community has been really positive and we are seeing a lot of visitors from neighbouring regions coming here to use the facility, he said.
Now it is time to look at stage two of the development which will include a children's play area, Cr Jones said.
The Stage two development, endorsed by Councillors at our January meeting, has been on the drawing board since the very beginning so now we can begin having discussions about planning and budgeting to deliver an extension to the facility.
The pool is the only inland 10 lane pool in Queensland constructed to the international governing body of swimming (FINA) standards and located geographically in the centre of the Lockyer Valley, caters for people from all areas of the region,
This facility will be able to offer the best of both worlds when it comes to competitive and recreational swimming. It offers a pool designed and constructed to cater for top level competition, including Commonwealth Games training, as well as an area for family fun with the completion of Stage Two, he said.
With the region seeing a spike in the number of young families living in this area, we hope to see construction completed in time for summer swimming.
