Holiday boredom? Not in the Lockyer Valley!
ENTERTAINING the youngsters over the break need not be a drama - simply visit the Lockyer Valley and the options are endless.
Take a step back in time at both the Gatton and District Historical Society and the Laidley Pioneer Village, where you can explore historical buildings, machinery and special collections.
Pack a picnic and enjoy the stunning Spring Bluff Historic Railway Station. Located near Murphys Creek, you can learn about the history of the area and enjoy the stunning gardens. With free electric barbecues, tables, chairs and plenty of room to run around, no-one will be bored. The Caf, located on-site, is open Saturday and Sunday, 9.30am - 4.30pm.
The Queensland Transport Museum, located inside the Lockyer Valley Cultural Centre, features an extensive display of transport of various ages and a display of over 200 models that explore the creations, founders and functions of the transport industry. Both young and old are sure to enjoy everything there is to see. Admission is adults $7.50, concession $6, children 6 - 15 years $2.50 and under 6 are free.
Council's Mayor Steve Jones said, for the lovers of the outdoors, the Lockyer Valley was home to more than 45 parks and reserves.
Picnic in one of our local parks, bushwalk through Glen Rock Regional Park and enjoy exploring the basalt ridges and rainforest gorges of Glen Rock or go on a family horseback ride at Fordsdale Farmstay, Camping and Horseback Adventures, Cr Jones said.
At Lake Apex you can spend some time in the bird hide or take a walk around. With over 150 different species of birds, you're sure to see something new and exciting each time.
If it's an extended stay you're after, the region has a host of accommodation to choose from.
