Das Neumann Haus celebrates 20 years

Serving up both a slice of history and cake for two decades now, Das Neumann Haus Museum recently celebrated its 20th anniversary with a special function.

Built by German immigrant Hermann Neumann in 1893, this iconic house served as a cultural hub in Laidley for over 100 years before being opened as a museum.

Cultural Heritage Portfolio Councillor Kathy McLean said the 20th anniversary celebration was a great way to recognise both past and present volunteers for their contribution to keeping the history of Laidley alive.

It's important to the Lockyer Valley's history that stories about our heritage are shared and preserved for future generations, Cr McLean said.

Without dedicated volunteers to share their knowledge of the Neumann family and the town, the museum would not be the success that it is today.

Now, with the installation of new story telling buttons in four of the rooms, visitors will be able to learn even more about the rich heritage of Das Neumann Haus.

The celebration also welcomed members of the Neumann family, with a special speech from John Neumann.

The high standard of Das Neumann Haus is a true testament to volunteers past and present and the commitment from Council to ensure the museum's lasting legacy, Cr McLean said.
