Deputy Mayor elected for Lockyer Valley Regional Council
Councillor Jason Cook was today elected Lockyer Valley Regional Council's Deputy Mayor during the first official Council meeting of the term.
Now in his second term, Cr Cook said it was an honour to retain the role.
It is humbling to receive the role of Deputy Mayor for another term, but at the end of the day I am no different to any other councillor.
The fact the community has voted in the same team, with the addition of Cr Brett Qualischefski, is a vote of confidence in the work we have achieved but there is still a lot to be done.
The COVID-19 situation has changed things dramatically and we are no doubt in for a challenging time ahead, Cr Cook said.
Mayor Tanya Milligan congratulated Cr Cook on retaining the position of Deputy Mayor.
It was fantastic to have Cr Cook voted in as Deputy Mayor for a second term today.
I thoroughly enjoyed working with Cr Cook last term and appreciated the support he provided as Deputy, so I am looking forward to another exciting four years, Mayor Milligan said.
Mayor Milligan acknowledged the return of previous councillors reflected how the community viewed the past Council's performance.
In a time of so much uncertainty, consistency and stability are vital.
As a Council, we need to be able to look at and acknowledge the challenges that will be faced not only by business and industry, but by mums and dads and us as an organisation, she said.
Although face-to-face contact is now limited due to COVID-19 restrictions, Mayor Milligan assured the community Council was very much open for business.
We are only a phone call or email away.
This is a tough time for so many but let's keep on doing what we're doing as it really is helping to flatten that curve, she said.
