Disability access upgrade for Gatton

Gatton's CBD will soon boast wheelchair and pram-friendly access ramps.

The project will see four access ramps from the road to the footpaths constructed in Railway Street, Gatton.

The site will be cleared this Friday and construction of the ramps will begin on Monday 30 November.

Construction will take place between 4am and 9am daily, to minimise disruption to businesses and shoppers as the festive season nears.

Lockyer Valley Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan said the upgrade would bring accessibility in the Gatton CBD to a new standard.

The addition of these ramps will improve the safety of the CBD and provide greater mobility for our community.

The existing footpath will be temporarily narrowed during construction but will remain open and accessible .

These works are part of a project to improve access and increase safety for those moving around Gatton CBD and will also include a gradual relocation of disability parking bays to more suitable locations, Mayor Milligan said.

Noise, dust and construction activity can be expected and Council thanks everyone for their patience and understanding while these works are carried out.

The project is expected to be completed by Friday 4 December 2020, weather permitting.
