Garden Competition winners praised for their efforts in drought conditions

The winners of this year's Lockyer Valley Garden Competition have been officially announced at a presentation afternoon tea.

Lockyer Valley Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan said given the dry conditions, this year's entrants were to be commended.

It's heartbreakingly dry and still, our committed gardeners have somehow managed to present outstanding gardens for judging.

Congratulations to everyone who entered this year's competition and, of course, our winners, Mayor Milligan said.

Entrants were judged by Toowoomba-based gardening experts, Regina Albion and Lorraine Schiller.

This year's winners are:

Small Rural Garden:

Winner: Lorelle and Trevor Niebling, 33 Mt Berryman Road, Blenheim

2nd place: Alan and Shirley Small, 19 Pats Road, Plainland

Large Rural Garden:

Winner: Kathy and David Burnett, 7 Bond Court, Hatton Vale

2nd place: Mandy Storey, 1348 Flagstone Creek Road, Flagstone Creek

3rd place: Ian and Daphne Carpenter, 119 Topps Road, Flagstone Creek

Small Town Garden:

Winner: Leone Wegner, 28 Highview Avenue, Gatton

2nd place: Lynelle and Leandra Niemeyer, 3 Lillian Street, Gatton

Best Street Appeal:

Winner: Dennis and Janet Stark, 7 Harch Street, Gatton

2nd place: Tabeel Aged Care, 27 Ambrose Street, Laidley

3rd place: Betty Dallinger, 93 William Street, Gatton

School / Child Care Centre:

Winner: Mount Sylvia State School, 6 Left Hand Branch Road, Mount Sylvia

2nd place: Withcott State School, 26 Biggs Road, Withcott

Best Waterwise/Drought Resistant Garden:

Winner: Faith Lutheran College, 5 Faith Avenue, Plainland

2nd place: Joan and Alex Body, 11 Tyrrell Court, Laidley

Best Patio/Unit Garden:

Winner: Brian Harvey, 27 Ambrose Street, Laidley

2nd place: Allan Goos, 27 Ambrose Street, Laidley

3rd place: Jeff Zahnow, 27 Ambrose Street, Laidley

First Time Entrant:

Winner: Kathy and David Burnett

Reserve Grand Champion:
