Lockyer Valley Regional Council is seeking your input on how it invests in community facilities used almost exclusively by one or two community groups.

Council is conducting this consultation to increase its understanding of community values regarding how and when Council should invest in facilities for community groups.

Mayor Tanya Milligan said prior to the election, the community brought attention to the fact it wanted more input into Council's decisions that affected them.

This is an opportunity for just that and I encourage residents to have a say and help us understand their values and preferences around this issue.

The results of the consultation will be considered by Council in both the short and long term so future decisions are applied more consistently and equitably across Council's range of community facilities, Mayor Milligan said.

Deputy Mayor and Community Facilities Portfolio Councillor, Jason Cook said Council hoped to achieve a community facility investment system that was fair to all groups and sustainable for Council.

We don't want a situation where one group or type of group gets $100,000 in assistance and another similar group only gets $2000.

Occasionally, community groups approach Council to provide or upgrade facilities that will be used, mostly, by only that group.

Often, this requires Council to invest a substantial level of funding that wasn't previously budgeted for that purpose and ultimately, this comes through rates, Cr Cook said.

• Plainland - Woolworths Shopping Centre, Gehrke Rd, Saturday 15 April 2017, 10am - 12.30pm
• Helidon - Soldiers Memorial Park, Railway St, Wednesday 19 April, 2.30pm - 4.30pm
• Withcott - Withcott Town Centre, behind Freedom Fuels, Thursday 20 April 2017, 3.30pm - 5.30pm
