It's that time of year again!
As the swooping season' begins, residents are urged to stay alert during the coming months and avoid areas where magpies are nesting.
Environmental Portfolio Councillor Rick Vela said swooping is normal defensive behaviour during the breeding season.
We encourage residents to take the right precautions to keep themselves safe from swooping magpies, as incidents can occur anytime from July to December, Cr Vela said.
There are a number of safety measures one can take to avoid harm, including:
- Protecting your head and eyes,
- Wearing a hat and sunglasses,
- Carrying an open umbrella,
- Walking your bicycle,
- Don't run,
- Don't provoke or attack,
- Leaving quickly, and/or
- Trying a different route.
