Keynote speaker a feature of upcoming Drought Support Expo
The Lockyer Valley Drought Support Expo will welcome Mary O'Brien from Are you bogged mate?' as the event's keynote speaker.
Mary is a passionate advocate for rural men's mental health and is determined to stop the cycle of suicide and help those who may be struggling in silence.
Two suicide tragedies in the Darling Downs prompted Mary to pen an article titled Are you bogged mate?', which experienced an incredible response from the rural sector. This led to the creation of the Are you bogged mate?' program. Mary has a unique insight into what makes country blokes tick and through the analogy of getting bogged', the program extends a hand to farmers, shearers, truck drivers, and all rural men who might be feeling bogged.
Lockyer Valley Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan praised Mary's deep understanding of the diverse challenges faced by rural communities.
Mary was raised on the land and is a passionate advocate for the agricultural sector.
Her career in the rural sector has given Mary a deep respect for country blokes, and more importantly, the ability to effectively communicate with them.
It is so important to check in with your mental health and wellbeing at all times, but especially during an ongoing drought, Mayor Milligan said.
