Laidley gets green light for levee
The long awaited and highly anticipated Laidley levee will soon come to fruition thanks to State Government funding totalling more than half a million dollars announced last Friday.
Lockyer Valley Mayor Steve Jones, said this project has been a long time coming and will go a long way in securing the future of the Laidley township.
Council has been lobbying the current Palaszczuk Government as well as the previous Newman Government to get this project underway and I am delighted to announce we have been successful in attracting $625,500 in funding, or 40 per cent of the total project cost, he said.
The reality is that the drain behind the Laidley pool simply doesn't have the capacity needed to adequately disperse run off during extensive periods of rain, so by increasing the size of the drain in conjunction with the construction of a levee bank, the main street of Laidley should be better protected from future flood events, Mayor Jones said.
On behalf of Council, I would like to thank the Deputy Premier and Minister for Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning, the Hon Jackie Trad MP for the funding which should see construction get underway over the winter period due to less anticipated rainfall.
