Laidley Library one step closer
The all-new Library and Customer Service Centre for Laidley is another step closer.
The current library in Spicer Street will close next Friday, 9 September at 5.30pm to relocate to its temporary location, behind the Laidley Youth Centre, corner of William and Ambrose Street. The library will re-open at 9am on Monday 19 September.
Council's Mayor Tanya Milligan said the development was progressing on time.
At this stage we anticipate the Laidley Library to operate from the temporary location for a few months before returning to Spicer Street to a newly renovated Library and Customer Service Centre.
The after-hours returns chute will remain in Spicer Street until Thursday 15 September when it will be relocated to the new temporary Library, while the contact number and opening hours will remain unchanged, Cr Milligan said.
The project forms part of Council's 2016/17 Budget. Council will contribute $600,000 towards the development, while a grant of $264,000, under the Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program (LGGSP), will further help facilitate the project.
Council's Deputy Mayor and Facilities Portfolio Councillor, Jason Cook, said tender documentation would soon be finalised, with a successful tender to be awarded by the end of September.
After that it will be all systems go, with demolition of the old administration building allowing the refurbishment to get underway from mid-October, Cr Cook said.
