Lockyer Valley on show at 2018 Ekka
The Lockyer Valley is set to shine at this month's Royal Queensland Show (Ekka), Queensland's largest and most loved annual event.
Around 400,000 people attend the Ekka over 10 days and Lockyer Valley Regional Council's stand has once again secured prime position inside the spectacular Agricultural Hall.
It will feature produce displays, including giant pumpkins and oversized vegetables and a major drawcard, none other than the region's own Fergie TE20 tractor.
Lockyer Valley Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan said Council's stand would be your onestop shop for everything you need to know about the region.
Visitors to the Lockyer Valley display can see the best local produce, have a farm selfie on the tractor and learn about the Lockyer Valley from knowledgeable staff and volunteers, keen to entice our city friends to our part of regional Queensland, Mayor Milligan said.
While the Ekka is all about recognising, showcasing and supporting our farmers, their families and Queensland agriculture, for Council it is an opportunity to target the drive market out of Brisbane.
Making its second major appearance will be the newly-released Lockyer Valley destination guide, which showcases the events, accommodation providers, tourism experiences and the stunning natural landscapes of the region.
The Ekka is the perfect opportunity to get the guide into the hands of people keen to learn more about the Lockyer Valley and potentially take a trip to the region, Mayor Milligan said.
As part of its Ekka activation, Council will run a competition for a family of up to six to enjoy a visit to the region. The winner will receive a nights' accommodation midweek at Branell Homestead, including breakfast, a farm tour and morning tea at Holmwood Lavender Farm, a produce voucher and picnic pack from Schulte's, along with lunch and entry to the Queensland Transport Museum.
Staff will also use the opportunity to talk people through the new SEQ Food Trail and suggest they create their own unique foodie adventure through South East Queensland.
