Make the Lockyer shine this Christmas
Nothing signifies Christmas like houses sparkling with Christmas lights, and the time has come yet again to unpack the bulbs and put the decorations up.
Entries are now open in this year's Spirit of the Lockyer Valley Christmas Lights and Decoration Competition.
Council's Mayor Steve Jones encouraged locals to nominate in this wonderful community competition.
Last year's displays were outstanding and I would certainly encourage residents to get in the spirit and embrace the Christmas season.
It's such a special time of year and it's lovely to see families driving around to share in the Christmas joy.
Let's make the decision as difficult as possible for the judges and put our best nominations forward.
With nominations now open, residents have until Friday 27 November to get their entries together, which means there is plenty of time to ignite your creative side and give your home or business a spark of colour.
Christmas lights give a great sense of community pride and help bring people together, Cr Jones said.
Hang out one light or a thousand, the more lights the better. We want to see record numbers involved this year with categories for everyone to enter.
The six categories open this year include:
- Best nativity scene
- Best decorated home
- Best decorated or lit business (interior/window)
- Best novice (first time entrant any category)
- Best community group
- Best solar powered display
A 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize will be awarded in each category. All entrants will be given a sign to display at their property to acknowledge their involvement in the competition.
Entry forms must be received by 4.45pm Friday 27 November. Judging will take place the week commencing 30 November 2015, subject to weather, with winners announced in the Gatton Star on Wednesday 16 December 2015.
