Preparations gearing up for Laidley Spring Festival

WITH spring now just days away, preparations for this year's Laidley Spring Festival are in full swing.

Here's some highlights to ensure you get around everything that's available to see and do over the three-day program:

• The We are Australian Spring Art Show, held at the Laidley Lutheran Church Hall is the place to go for stunning artwork, craft and jewellery. It's open Thursday and Friday from 9am - 4.30pm and Saturday until 3pm and entry is free. Come along for the opportunity to purchase original paintings in traditional and modern styles.
• The Quilt and Craft Expo will be held at the Uniting Church Hall from 9am - 4.30pm on Thursday and Friday and until 3pm on Saturday. Entry is $5 for adults and 50c for kids.
• The Laidley Uniting Church will also offer catering in their Courtyard Caf. Morning and afternoon tea and lunch will be available. In the Church grounds there will be everything from displays of vintage cars, trucks, tractors and machinery.

Council's Mayor Tanya Milligan said there was guaranteed to be something for everyone at the Quilt and Craft Expo.

We will have stallholders demonstrating their crafts and sharing their skills with the public.

With everything from jewellery making, card making, folk art, leather flowers and novelty children's wear to wood turning, lace making and patchwork, you won't be disappointed, Mayor Milligan said.

Local art group Valley Cre8ive are also joining in the flowery fun with Blooming Art! Blooming Artists! The free community art activity at the Family Fun morning on Saturday 10 September is a chance for hands-on art activities using different art media.

Valley Cre8ive artists are all about encouraging sustainability and creative upcycling.

It's sure to be a great chance to engage your imagination and see that junk really can become art! Mayor Milligan said.

Add to the mix the Church displays at the Laidley Lutheran Church and the Laidley Anglican Church open house and the three-day program really will be jam-packed.
