Rabbit survey underway
Council has partnered with the Darling Downs-Moreton Rabbit Board to work with local residents to get on top of the region's rabbit populations. Lockyer Valley Regional Council Rabbit Board representative, Cr Janice Holstein, said there has never been a better time to tackle the rabbit problem than right now.
The reality is that the current conditions, coupled with planned eradication measures have reduced rabbit numbers, which makes it the ideal time to work with local residents to map areas where there is still activity.
This isn't a big stick exercise. Both Council and the Rabbit Board are genuinely committed to reducing rabbit numbers in the Lockyer Valley, especially given one rabbit can eat up to 6.25 kg of lettuce with 150 able to cause $1.5 million worth of damage in just one year, Cr Holstein said.
Residents in affected areas will soon receive a letter from Council outlining the survey.
