Region shines for Food Ambassador
The Lockyer Valley played host to a special visitor recently - its Food Ambassador Alastair McLeod.
The celebrity chef and foodie extraordinaire, together with a group of food and travel journalists visited a variety of local producers and tourism operators.
The tour, part of Brisbane Marketing's Regional Flavours campaign, offered the opportunity for the region to shine in the lead-up to this year's Regional Flavours event.
Council's Mayor Tanya Milligan said Alastair eagerly took the chance to chat to local producers, first-hand.
The tour was a huge success, and a wonderful opportunity to extend Alastair's knowledge of the region and its produce, which will in turn allow him to be a stronger advocate for the Lockyer Valley and its produce through the media, with industry colleagues and at food events.
Our partnership with Alastair generates an enormous amount of opportunity to promote the region and all it has to offer.
He is passionate about fresh, local produce and that makes him the perfect person to promote the Lockyer Valley to Queensland and beyond.
Our sincere thanks goes to Alastair, all our local producers and tourism operators and the food and travel journalists and bloggers who attended and made the event such a success.
We would also like to thank Brisbane Marketing for working with us to bring the group of food and travel journalists out to sample the Lockyer Valley, in the lead up to Regional Flavours, Cr Milligan said.
Held at Southbank on 16 and 17 July, Regional Flavours will provide the opportunity for people to enjoy the tastes of the Lockyer Valley.
The Lockyer Valley will again sponsor the popular Picnic Patch at the festival, and along with Branell Homestead are prize sponsors for a Regional Flavours VIP competition. Joining Alastair on stage to cook up a storm will be celebrity chefs Maggie Beer and Matt Preston, George Calombaris and Gary Mehigan from Master Chef.
