Ropeley and Flagstone Creek waste facilities to close

Lockyer Valley Regional Council has approved the closure of the Ropeley and Flagstone Creek waste facilities

The closure was approved at Council's October Ordinary meeting and forms part of Council's past Waste Reduction and Recycling Plan 2012 (WRRP).

Lockyer Valley Regional Council Waste Portfolio Councillor Jason Cook said both sites had a history of inappropriate use.

"Unfortunately, both the Ropeley and Flagstone Creek waste facilities have been the target of illegal dumping for many years now.

"The sites continue to be used inappropriately, placing the wider community, contractors and our environment at risk," Cr Cook said.

The WRRP stipulates it necessary to reduce and remove unsupervised bin sites at all locations across the region following the introduction of the kerbside waste and recycling bins.

Both sites, located at Wesslings Road, Ropeley and Stockyard Creek Road, Flagstone Creek will close on 1 February 2021.

Cr Cook said Lockyer Valley Regional Council provides eight transfer stations across the region and residents who frequent both sites have access to five of these transfer stations, all within 20 minutes of the current sites.
