After enjoying lunch at Hannant's Takeaway in Gatton, George Zielke is now the lucky winning shopper of the Shop Local Queensland Week promotion.
And his prize? Two tickets to Queensland's only State of Origin Game at Suncorp Stadium on 22 June.
Mr Zielke has owned and operated a lawn mowing business in the region for more than 20 years. Coincidentally, it was Mr Zielke's birthday the day before he received the call that he had won, which he thinks was a great birthday present.
The lucky winning business was Yaz Kebabs from Gatton, with owner Nicole Gurbyz also receiving two tickets to cheer on the boys at Suncorp Stadium.
Council's Mayor Tanya Milligan congratulated participants and businesses for teaming up to celebrate Queensland's heritage.
Shop Local Queensland Week was a promotion aimed at encouraging Lockyer Valley residents to shop locally by spending $10 or more in one transaction at participating businesses.
We received an outstanding number of participants, with more than 1100 entries from local shoppers and more than 50 participating businesses.
This high level of involvement from residents really shows how important it is to support our local businesses and we should continue to celebrate the Lockyer Valley and Queensland year-round, Mayor Milligan said.
