Skatepark review set for the Lockyer Valley

Lockyer Valley Regional Council is putting the spotlight on the region's skateparks.

Council will soon begin a review and master plan process that will provide a roadmap for future upgrades and programs.

Youth and Communities Portfolio Councillor Michael Hagan said everyone who used the region's facilities was encouraged to have their say.

Skateboarding, scootering and BMX are popular sport and recreational activities for local youth and provide great exercise and social opportunities.

To ensure we take skatepark users' views into consideration, we are encouraging everyone who uses the region's facilities to complete the online survey or speak with one of the consultants when they're at a skatepark.

The information collected will be used, together with advice from industry experts to provide Council with a long-term view of recommended future improvements and upgrades.

At this stage, we anticipate most future upgrades will focus on Gatton and Laidley skateparks, while ensuring we maintain all other facilities in the region, Cr Hagan said.

Council plans to use a combination of capital expenditure and grants to undertake any improvement works over the next 10-15 years.

Council has engaged Australian Skateboarding Community Initiative (ASCI) to undertake community consultation.

ASCI bring extensive experience in skatepark consultation, design and event facilitation across Australia and have strong familiarity with all Lockyer Valley skateparks.
