Sport legends in Laidley
There were a few familiar faces in Laidley last weekend all on hand to promote an active and healthy lifestyle through playing sport.
Council's annual Come and Try Sports Day featured QLD Origin coach Kevin Walters, former NRL star David Faalogo and QLD Firebirds stars Romelda Aiken and Laura Clemesha, all a massive hit with the crowd as they signed autographs, posed for photographs and encouraged kids to sign on for a sport.
Lockyer Valley Sport and Recreation Chair, Cr Jason Cook, said to have such high calibre athletes on hand to encourage sport participation is a real coup for the region.
Sport plays a vital role in our children's development and to have people who have represented their sport and country at the highest level is a real win for the Lockyer Valley.
The Come and Try' sports day is designed to offer the community a platform to see first-hand just what's on offer in the region and to highlight the state-of-the-art facilities at not only the Laidley Recreation Reserve but at reserves throughout the region and it did just that.
From all reports most sports represented on the day received a high registration level which from a Council perspective is really great to see. Cr Cook said.
