State investment in Lockyer Valley totals more than $5m
Lockyer Valley Regional Council has received more than $5million in Queensland Government funding for a multitude of projects to benefit the community.
Through the Queensland Government's Unite and Recover Community Stimulus Package Council was awarded $3.74million to undertake several initiatives including Fairways Park Stage 1b, 1c and 1d; Urban Stormwater Upgrades; LED Lighting at Laidley and Gatton Cemetery Upgrades.
A total of $1.7million will be contributed from the Queensland Governments COVID Work for Queensland Program for projects including Gatton Shire Hall Roof Restoration; Lockyer Valley Cultural Centre Renewal Program and Gatton Waste Facility Upgrade Program.
Local Government Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said the two programs were an integral part of the Palaszczuk Government's $7 billion health and economic recovery plan.
"As this pandemic continues to affect the health of millions of people across the world, so to are the economic ripples felt across the globe," he said.
"As we've seen, Australia isn't immune to that - nor is Queensland or the Lockyer Valley.
"That's why these programs are so important - upgrading stormwater drains and cemeteries, beautifying our towns with light displays and improving our playgrounds don't just make for better environments for our communities, it also means jobs for residents during tough economic times.
"All up, almost 100 jobs will be supported or created for the next twelve months through these programs."
Mayor Tanya Milligan said the funding would assist the Lockyer Valley respond and recover to the economic effects from the COVID-19 Pandemic.
"We thank the Palaszczuk State Government for their investment in the Lockyer Valley," she said.
"These works will make a positive impact for our community now and into the future, with the creation of some wonderful outdoor areas, upgraded infrastructure and greater capacity building at Council's facilities."

- Fairways Park Stage 1b and 1d - carpark, dry creek gardens, dog off-leash area, bore construction - $1.74 million
- Fairways Park Stage 1c - civil works, footpaths, nature play and learn to ride course - $1 million
- Urban Stormwater upgrades - Gatton and Helidon stormwater mitigation - $700,000
- Laidley Transfer Station - upgrade to existing boundary fencing - $50,000
- Laidley LED lighting - upgrade of lamps - $105,000
